Amber Kostial, MD
Dr. Kostial settled in Bellingham with her husband and two dogs in 2015 after completing her Psychiatry Residency at The University of Vermont (UVM) College of Medicine. She attended The University of Utah School of Medicine, where she graduated with honors, prior to her residency at UBM.
Her husband and she were attracted to the Pacific Northwest by the beauty of the outdoors and proximity to family. She worked full-time at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center providing inpatient psychiatric care and outpatient psychiatric consultation services prior to entering into private practice the summer of 2016. She transitioned to private practice due to her desire to establish long-term therapeutic relationships with patients and a community need for more outpatient psychiatrists. She continues to provide part-time Services for PeaceHealth. She embraces a holistic view of mental wellness with consideration of biological, psychological and social factors that may impede optimal mental health. She strongly believes in the value of a multimodal treatment approach which may include psychotherapy, medications, treatment of general medical problems and maintenance of general medical wellness, promotion of healthy lifestyle choices and collaboration between treatment providers. She offers initial evaluations and follow-up care, with medications and psychotherapy provided by her or in conjunction with another provider. She provides one-time consultation services when referred by another treatment provider only if the patient has a provider who will manage medications over time.
In her free time, Dr. Kostial enjoys trail running, hiking, camping, cooking, caring for orchids and spending time with her family and friends. She is a dog lover and has rescued and cared for several beloved pups with whom she shares her love of nature.
